Dr. Xu received the 2020 Superior Paper Award from the Tire Society for the paper entitled “Data-Driven Multiscale Science for Tire Compounding”. This paper is based on Dr. Xu’s previous collaboration with Goodyear Research.

Zihan Wang was placed 2nd out of 9 students in the 2021 ME Graduate Research Competition (May 27, 2021). Title of the presentation: A Gaussian Mixture Variational Autoencoder-Based Approach for Designing Phononic Bandgap Metamaterials.

Ms. Zihan Wang received the 2020 General Electric (GE) Graduate Fellowship for Innovation! Congratulations!
The purpose of the GE fellowship program at UConn’s School of Engineering is to (i) promote high quality research of interest to GE; (ii) to recognize graduate students for achievement; and (iii) to provide PhD students with opportunities for professional development and enrichment. GE Fellows were selected following on a two-stage process consisting of a written application and then an interview.
We have kicked off a Ford University Research Project on deep learning-based design of cellular structure considering uncertainties induced by Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes.

Dr. Xu gave an invited talk in the mechanical engineering seminar at Stony Brook University on Oct 25: “Uncertainty Quantification Methods for Stochastic Microstructure Characterization and Reconstruction“.
